Why will Red Bull pay a historic entry fee in F1 next season?
The 2023 F1 season was an exceptional year for Red Bull, breaking records and racking up points totals that had never been seen before.
However, success comes at a price and it's in the millions next year, as the Austrian team will have to pay a historic F1 entry fee.
As a team, the Austrian outfit scored 860 points in the season thanks to winning 21 of the 22 races on the calendar, 19 of them for Max Verstappen and two for Sergio Perez.
In addition, the team achieved a 1-2 finish in the drivers' standings for the first time thanks to Checo Pérez's strong start and finish.
For that reason, Red Bull will have to pay almost $7.5 million in registration fees ahead of the 2024 season.
How are these payments calculated?
According to Motorsport's Jonathan Noble, each team pays $6,575 per point scored, plus a base fee of $657,837, but the constructors' champion, which is Red Bull, must pay a higher price per point. Red Bull's entry will cost $7,893 per point scored.
"It's a luxury problem, because we've had to add points to generate the bill. Fortunately, it's under the budget limit. But, yes, it's a big cheque to the FIA," team principal Christian Horner told motorsport.com.
Red Bull's entry fee, which it must pay by December 10, is more than second and third place will pay combined. Mercedes, the runner-up, will have to cover a fee of $3.4 million and Ferrari, third, $3.3 million.
Red Bull's dominance in F1 2023 will go down in the category's records, as will the cost of its success.
