Vine Is Over- How the Internet Reacted
News dropped today that Twitter will be discontinuing their 6-second video sharing platform, Vine. Viewership has been steadily dropping for the platform, with the stiff competition of Snapchat and Instagram.
Users will have time over the next few weeks to access the app and website to view and save their favourite Vines. We will be warned before the platform is closed for good.
The Internet had pretty mixed reactions to the news that Vine will no longer be operating. Twitter has been cluttered with people posting their all-time favourite vines to pay tribute to the platform.

Since the platform was launched in 2013, several people have found great success that has helped further their digital career. Since Vine has been on a steady decline for a while, many of them have found home on other social media sites, such as Snapchat, Instagram, and YouTube. Vine will leave behind a legacy of being the go-to place for a quick laugh or smile. It will be known as one of the first social media sites to focus on speed, and to encourage creativity, storytelling, and fast paced comedy using a time restriction. In their official statement, Vine said: “thank you to all of those who came to watch and laugh every day.”
This sudden extinction of Vine only leads us to wonder- what’s next? Musical.ly? Google Plus? MySpace? This serves us all as a reminder of the fleeting nature of social media. What may seem like the biggest and best platform can become obsolete in a matter of time.
