Daniel McInnes charged with attempted stabbing murder after statewide manhunt

A STATEWIDE police manhunt following the vicious multiple stabbing of a woman has ended as police arrested a man at a Tamworth hotel and charged him with attempted murder.

Daniel McInnes, 29, was arrested at the hotel in Peel Street three days after the alleged attempted murder of his partner 420km away.

The 25-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times in the neck, face and arms at a house in Turrella in Sydney’s southern suburbs just after midnight last Friday.

Police and paramedics were called to a house on Cooke Street where they found the woman in a serious condition.

The incident followed another alleged assault on the same victim just over two weeks earlier.

She was taken to hospital as police initiated a statewide search for Mr McInnes, who they found in Tamworth on Monday afternoon.

Police charged him with attempted murder, wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and break and enter and inflict grievous bodily harm.

Police also charged Mr McInnes over an alleged incident involving the same woman on March 23.

They charged him with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and stalk or intimidate.

Mr McInnes is due to appear in Tamworth Local Court this morning.

The injured woman has undergone several surgical procedures and remains in a serious condition in hospital.
