After announcing a partnership between his company and the NFL, Jay-Z has opened up about the situation, explaining that he saw it as an important move in the current political and social climate.
He claims to have the aim of strengthening the community through football and music, taking advantage of the Inspire Change initiative started by the NFL.
The partnership will see Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s company, choosing artists to perform at specific games and the Super Bowl, and will contribute to the league’s initiative that was launched earlier this year.

The initiative is supposed to provide support for programs that reduce barriers to opportunity, focusing specifically on three areas: Education, police relations, and criminal justice reform.

Beyonce’s husband sat down with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and explained: “I think we forget that Colin’s whole thing was to bring attention to social injustice. So, in that case, this is a success. This is the next thing. If protesting on the field is the most effective way, then protest on the field,” he said. “But if you have a vehicle that can inspire change or you can speak to the masses and educate at the same time as well, tell people what’s going on, so people are not controlling your narrative, not telling you, ‘your protest is about this. I think we’ve passed kneeling. I think it’s time to go into our actionable items.”
